Spicy Hot Chocolate


Spicy Hot Chocolate

Ingredients
  • 6 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup grated panela
  • 4 (3-inch) cinnamon sticks
  • 1⁄ 8 teaspoon crushed hot red chile flakes
  • 4 ounces bittersweet chocolate (preferably 70% cacao), finely chopped
Cooking Instructions: 
  1. Combine the milk, panela, cinnamon sticks, and chiles in a medium-size saucepan. 
  2. Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, until bubbles form around the edges of the pan. 
  3. Remove from the heat, cover, and let stand for 20 minutes.
  4. Reheat over low until very hot. Remove from the heat. 
  5. Add the chocolate and let stand for a few minutes. 
  6. Whisk until the chocolate is smooth.
  7. Strain through a wire sieve into cups and serve immediately.
