Whole Wheat Soda Bread

Ingredients
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons cold butter
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1⁄2 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 11⁄2 cups buttermilk
Cooking Instructions: 
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Grease a baking sheet.
  2. Combine the all- purpose flour, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt in a large bowl; mix well. 
  3. Cut in the butter using a pastry cutter or two knives. 
  4. Stir in the whole wheat flour and oats.
  5. Make a well in the center of the mixture and pour in the buttermilk all at once. Mix with a fork until well blended.
  6. Turn the dough onto a floured board and knead for 1 minute.
  7. Shape into a ball and set on the baking sheet. Press into a 6- inch circle. Cut a cross in the top.
  8. Bake for 40 minutes, or until well browned and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
